All aquatic turtles should be assumed to be positive for salmonella. Salmonella exists naturally within turtle intestines and is shed within their feces. They are not born with this bacterium, but they often contract it due to environmental conditions. This makes it important to always practice good hygiene with aquatic turtles.
Baby turtles shouldn’t be put in an aquarium or fish tank as they need to come out of the water from time to time. Therefore, their water shouldn’t be too shallow or deep as they need to swim well and come out of the water to rest on land. Keep in mind that infants and children are also not ideal companions for turtles. Many experts recommend that only children over 12 years old have contact with land turtles. Most small turtles are carriers of salmonella, an infection that can possibly be fatal to infants, the elderly, and the medically fragile.
It’s important to make sure that you don’t let it get too high up, or it could fall down and hurt itself or you. Aquariums should be kept in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Water should never be allowed to become too hot or too cold, as this can cause damage to the turtles’ shells. If the temperature is too high, turtles can become dehydrated, which can lead to death.
How to Care for Turtles
Make sure to dechlorinate any water prior to adding it to a turtle enclosure. If you want your pet baby turtle to grow into a healthy adult and live a long, happy life, cleaning is a must. Clean your turtle tank and habitat regularly and thoroughly. Harmful bacteria can be thriving even if it’s not visible. Most turtle species commonly kept as pets need to be feed every other day, but check with the breeder or pet store to be sure. Mornings are good feeding times, since turtles are more active earlier in the day.

How to Take Care of Baby Turtles

If you're only around to take care of your tortoise for a year or two before you want to jump ship, then it may not be the ideal pet for you. Tortoises can live between 30~100 years, which means that your lovely pet may live longer than you.
Make sure your baby tortoise is getting a regular soaking throughout the day. One reason your tortoise may be inactive is because they might not be properly hydrated. Some people recommend that you line a juvenile tortoise's home with wire mesh to protect it from pesky creatures. Your tortoise should have an exciting environment to keep it active and busy.
